Janeen Rashmawi
Janeen Rashmawi has been a member of NAAWA’s education committee since 2017; her focuses include supporting the committee’s work on providing educators with supplemental curriculum materials and coordinating community outreach. Currently Ms. Rashmawi is a communications manager at the Institute for Middle East Understanding, where she works with journalists, US media outlets, and policymakers to amplify Palestinian voices and stories to increase the public’s understanding about the socio-economic, political, and cultural aspects of Palestinians and Palestinian Americans. Prior to joining the IMEU, Ms. Rashmawi held the position of head of Public Affairs at the Palestinian Mission to the US in Washington D.C, her experience also includes leading Palestinian human rights work for the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) in Geneva, Switzerland.
She holds a B.A. Anthropology from Sonoma State University and an M.A. in Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University. Ms. Rashmawi conducted her graduate research on a comparative analysis of socio-political trends in Palestine. Currently, Janeen resides in Washington D.C. and reached her one-year mark with the IMEU this past June 2020.
