Teaming up with “Empowered Women International” (EWI) to provide entrepreneurship training, mentoring, market access and support services to help potential women monetize their creative or cultural assets, artistic abilities, knowledge and skills, and become change-makers within their families and communities..

Participated along with other organizations on a workshop “What Can I do? A civic Engagement Workshop” at Langston Hughes Middle School at Reston. • Motivational and Advocacy Presentation by Ms. Candace Lightner, founder of “Mothers against Drunk Driving (MAAD)” and founder of “We Save Lives.”

Professional Presentation and Recognition of Talents in our midst; by Dr. Rasha Hammamieh, Ph.D. Director, Integrative Systems Biology, US Army. • Highlight accomplishments and determination of Arab American Women. A presentation by Ms. Rand T. Shihab, a prominent Iraqi news anchor at Al-Hurra TV, an active journalist and a recognized fashion artist.
Towards empowering Arab American Women Entrepreneurs, NAAWA sponsored and supported recent Syrian immigrants to grow their businesses. Motivational and Inspiring Discussion with Ms. Barbara Ferris, founder of “International Women’s Democracy Center “(IWDC).

NAAWA’s Annual Dinner – Celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) The theme of the event was “Weaving the Colorful Fabric of America .” Guest speakers were the honorable Allison Silberberg, Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia and Ms. Zaha Hassan, Esq. New America Fellow. NAAWA donated the proceeds of the event to two recognized US charitable organizations for supporting Palestinian and Syrian refugee children and women in Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon..

 

During the year 2017

  • “Women for Women Professional Network” was launched. The first monthly event, under this program, took place back on February 18th , 2017. During the event NAAWA announced the teaming up with “Empowered Women International” (EWI) to provide entrepreneurship training, mentoring, market access and support services to help potential women monetize their creative or cultural assets, artistic abilities, knowledge and skills, and become change-makers within their families and communities.
  • On February 15th, 2017, NAAWA co-sponsored the protest against Netanyahu’s visit to the White House along with AAI and several other Organizations.
  • On March 1st, 2017, NAAWA co-sponsored a cultural event with George Town University,          “ Children of One World Cultural Performance”.
  • On March 11th, 2017, NAAWA participated along with other organizations on a workshop “ What Can I do ? A civic Engagement Workshop” at Langston Hughes Middle School at Reston.
  • On April 2nd, 2017, NAAWA had its second Annual Gala Dinner “Weaving the Colorful Fabric of America”. The event was to observe and celebrate both the International Women’s Day as well as the Arab American Heritage month. Part of the proceeds went to “United Palestinian Appeal “UPA”, a non-profit organization that helps refugees back in Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

  • On October 7th, 2017 , guest speaker, Rasha Hammamieh, Ph.D. Director, Integrative Systems Biology, US Army, who was selected to work onboard on a project with NASA, the International Space Station.

  • Mrs. Maha Alhasany,who NAAWA sponsored her to grow her business.
